Our Vision

9 shots

Colour Palette

Before we fully knew our storyline we created a colour palette including all the colours which we thought were most appropriate for our genre and that we wanted to incorporate into our opening. We thought that using dull colours (like different shades of grey and black) with a pop of colour was most effective in horror films. We thought this because the pop of colour makes the audience concentrate on that feature. White is used in horror films often as it contrasts the dull colours and acts as a filler light in most cases. Red is the most stereotypical colour that you are likely to see in any horror film, therefore we thought it was only right to include it. Red is popular in horror films as it represents danger, blood and anger.

Test of the sound
Lullaby
Throughout the whole of the montage there is a soft lullaby that is going to play in the background with a young girl singing it. This helps to create the scary effect and changes the mood and   atmosphere to compliment the theme of the opening of the fil being a horror movie. It is a very stereotypically used thing in the beginning and throughout a horror movie however we would be composing our own piece to fit our film and not break the copyright rules.

Heart rate monitor
At moments in the narrative part of the opening of the film there are going to be a few sections where the tension is rising and so by using the increase or decrease of the heart rate monitor it will   help to build tension up to what the audience may feel is a scary part that they need to prepare for.

Scratching
For many different people the sound is scratching is found to be quite uncomforting and harsh to listen to. People almost find it disturbing as it makes you feel uneasy as it is not a visually pleasing sound.

Screaming
For anyone that hears screaming, there is an automatic sense of danger, for not only the antagonist or the characters   within the film but also for the audience that feel that they are there and are experiencing the same scenario.

Footsteps
In our opening with narrative, the use of footsteps allows the audience to engage a sense of where about the antagonist   is, and although we cannot see them at the time it helps us to get our bearings around how far or close away they are and whether to feel scared or not.

Heavy breathing
The heavy breathing in the beginning of the film, often helps to show the characters thoughts on whether or not they are in their comfort zone or not. If the breathing were to be fast then it would show that they may be in a slight panic about something or may not feel completely satisfied that they are out of danger. If the breathing were to be slow then it would show that they are comfortable and that they are aware of all of their surroundings and know they are perfectly safe and have nothing to worry about.
